Foers Ibex I.The original Foers Ibex was built, like it's successor Ibex II, from LandRover Defender components on a chassis / spaceframe of Foers' own design. The whole steel framework is hot dip galvanised prior to being panelled with a body made from all folded rather than pressed sections. A unique feature of the original Ibex is the doors which open upwards held on gas struts in a semi gull-wing style. It has a utilitarian and purposeful look which is generally much admired by off-road enthusiasts.

On the road the Ibex has an acceptable ride, the 250 (100") wheelbase being better than the 240 (93") wheelbase. Noise levels are, however, fairly high, especially as most models are fitted with the Land Rover Tdi engine. Acceleration is quite brisk for such a vehicle and a cruising speed of 70mph is achieved comfortably.

It is, however, in off-road use where the Ibex truly excels. Amazing approach and depart angles coupled with good ground clearance, excellent forward vision, and Land Rover's legendary axle articulation means that the most extreme terrain can be tackled with confidence. - Peter Bradley.

The Ibex is based on Land-Rover D90 or D110 components. It has minimal overhangs and great approach and departure angles.

1999: Foers began work on a special 6x6 version of the Ibex to be fitted out as a fire tender by Firefly Special Vehicles.

The vehicle has a TVR-specification 4.6-litre LandRover V8 as standard, air assisted rear suspension and selectable differential locks on the rear axles.

Foers Nomad/Triton

Steve Hole writes:

The Triton was essentially an updated and more civilised version of the Nomad launched by John Foers (Foers Engineering) in 1985. The main difference was the use of Metro subframes and mechanicals. Styling was a little bit more friendly on the eye although it still had flat glass all round. Same build method ie folded ally panels over a strong perimeter frame mounted on a tubular steel chassis. It was pensioned off to a company called Del-Tech Engineering (also based in Rotherham) in 1990 where it staggered on until circa 1997. I estimate around 60 were sold compared to 200 Nomads. Foers now makes the Discovery based Ibex which is actually very good and is a cult amongst the 4x4 boys.

el primer triton era 4x2, carroceria aluminio, 40cv, 120kmh, 4 velocidades, 15 cm altura al suelo.
