In December 2011 our three man team will set out in our revolutionary Polar Vehicle with the aim of beating the current Guinness World Record of 2 days, 21 hours and 21 minutes and become the fastest overland journey to the South Pole to mark the 100 year anniversary of the first successful attempt by Roald Amundsen.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Partly this is about challenge – we’re trying to beat the overland world-record to the South Pole. It is also about testing and proving greener technologies for Polar exploration.
There are many major research projects being undertaken at the South Pole station over the next couple of years, and all of these would benefit from a cheaper alternative for travel. However, vehicles are not at the forefront of technology.
We’re pushing the limits of what technology can do – the Thomson Reuters Polar Vehicle is a specially-built bio-fuelled vehicle that uses half the fuel of similar vehicles. We’re using solar panels to reduce carbon footprint further and the very latest in real-time GPS Satellite communications and tracking. Antarctica is at the cutting edge of everything, from survival equipment to research materials and scientific equipment, due to the need for survival in its harsh conditions.
This is about continually pushing the boundaries – this time seeing and proving what is possible with green fuels and the latest technology. With the introduction of our cutting-edge bio-fuelled vehicle, we have the opportunity to fundamentally change this, and we might even break a record along the way.
HOW WE GOT HERE?
When we launched Thomson Reuters Eikon late last year we set out to create a competition with a top prize that our ambitious and competitive customers would want but would have a hard time arranging for themselves.
After considering many exotic options, we found the perfect solution. We would offer one lucky winner the chance to take part in an overland race to the South Pole. The fact that our South Pole Expedition would coincide with the 100th anniversary of Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen's historic expedition made it even better.
OUR COMPETITION WINNER
We invited customers and the public at large to tell us in no more than 40 characters what they wanted to see more of and less of in the new financial era. When the dust settled and the independent panel of judges made their selection from the 4,300 entries we received, Jason "JT" Thomas, a copywriter from Canada, became the third member of our three-man team of polar explorers with his "More Access. Less Excess" contest entry.

He estudiado las fotos con atención y lo unico que he podido sacar es que los ejes son japoneses (6 tornillos) pero no aseguro que sea una Hilux a no ser que hayan modificado el tren trasero.
La hilux de serie trae ballestas y en este se ven tirantes.

Pero esta modificado no? esque tiene entrada de aire para intercooler y la tacoma de la foto no, o esque hay modelos con ella?

Lleva un compresor y posiblemente se alimente de aire a traves de la entrada del capó.

Aunque sigue sin decir el modelo de la pick up. Yo tambien apuesto por la Tacoma.
