SEATING

The all-new Dakota is the only truck in its class to offer four standard doors on every model. And they open nearly 90 degrees for easier loading and unloading. Whether you choose Quad Cab® or Club Cab® Dakota gives you more size and more value in the perfect midsize package. Step inside and you'll find:

    * Best-in-class overall interior space on Club Cab and Quad Cab
    * Available six-passenger comfort, versatile 60/40 split-folding rear bench and 37 cubic feet of storage space (Quad Cab)
    * New rear access doors and 30 cubic feet of interior cargo space with rear seats up (Club Cab)
    * High level of standard features, including CD player
    * Only pickup truck with available heated cloth or leather-trimmed seats

Driver Display

Dakota's easy-to-read instrument panel features three large white-faced electroluminescent gauges that turn a cool shade of blue in the dark for glare-free nighttime driving visibility.

Stereo

We broke the standards by equipping Dakota with a standard CD player and AM/FM stereo. You can also choose the available six-disc CD player with MP3 capability for up to sixty hours of continuous music, and a 276-watt six-speaker Infinity™ system (standard on Laramie, available on SLT). A SIRIUS satellite radio system is also available on certain models.

Heated bucket seats

Seat-of-your-pants performance meets heat-of-your-pants comfort when you opt for the segment-exclusive heated front cloth or leather-trimmed bucket seats. That means you can only get them on Dakota. Unless you're willing to settle for a luxury sedan. Not available on ST "A" package.

Overhead console

What's up? That would be Dakota's overhead console with trip computer, electronic compass, and outside temperature display. It also includes a HomeLink® three-channel universal home security system transceiver and dual courtesy lamps (standard on Laramie, available on SLT).

Interior room

You don't need to cram it in. Dakota Club Cab® models provide the most overall interior space of any midsize truck. Which means plenty of room for up to five passengers with 40/40 dual rear seats with folding cushions (available on ST), and 30 cubic feet of storage behind the rear seat.

Storage

The biggest of them all. Quad Cab® models feature four full-size doors that open nearly 90 degrees for easier loading and unloading. Enough room to seat six full-size adults comfortably.* Best-in-class overall interior space. And best-in-class rear-seat leg room.† Bring it.

COMPLETELY CAPABLE

When we say that the all-new Dakota comes with the most standard power, the most available torque, and the most towing capability, we're not pulling your leg. We're pulling more weight than any other truck in the segment. We made the all-new 2005 Dodge Dakota bigger in every respect, including capability. And with the only V8 in it's class for under $20,000*, we also made it affordable.

* Requires manual transmission, late availability.
Remember to properly secure all cargo.

Power

With your choice of two available class-exclusive V8 engines and a standard V6, Dakota delivers horsepower and torque by the truckload. The new 4.7-liter high-output Magnum® V8 engine (late availability) kicks out 260 horsepower and best-in-class 310 lb-ft of torque. The 4.7-liter Magnum V8 provides 230 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. And the standard 3.7-liter Magnum V6 engine is the most powerful standard engine in its class with 210 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque.

Towing and hauling

Dakota's fully boxed, hydroformed frame provides the stiffness, strength, and durability to handle up to a 1,730-pound payload in the largest and longest standard cargo bed in its class.* It also helps deliver over 7,100 pounds of maximum towing capability when properly equipped. That's over 3,000 pounds more than some of Dakota's nearest competitors.

Transfer case

When you have the most available torque in your class, you'd better be able to put it to good use. All Dakota 4x4 models feature part-time 4LOCK and 4LO four-wheel-drive modes that can be easily engaged by a switch on the instrument panel. For maximum traction, choose the available class-exclusive full-time four-wheel-drive transfer case that provides all-wheel-drive traction all the time.

Suspension

The all-new Dakota uses an all-new independent front coil-over shock suspension on both 4x2 and 4x4 models for improved ride over the rough stuff and increased handling control in the turns. And the standard rear stabilizer bar reduces body roll under loaded conditions. So the next time you take a ride in someone's luxury sedan, give them a compliment and tell them it rides like a Dakota.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

When we set out create to the biggest, strongest, most capable Dakota ever, we didn't skimp on the most important feature of all: safety. That's why the all-new 2005 Dodge Dakota Club Cab has received a Five-Star rating in front and side-impact crash tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).*

Some of the safety and security features built into the 2005 Dakota include:

    * Advanced multistage driver and front-passenger air bags† with occupant classification system (OCS)
    * Available supplemental side-curtain air bags
    * Class-exclusive replaceable hydroformed front frame structure and octagonal rail tips
    * Large front disc brakes and standard rear-wheel antilock brakes
    * Available Security Group with integrated vehicle alarm system and Sentry Key®
    * Child seat tether anchors (LATCH) and child-protection rear door locks

Replaceable frame rail tips

Dakota is built from the ground up and the frame rails forward to provide added protection to all passengers. In the event of a front-impact collision, specially designed octagonal front frame rail tips collapse rearward to absorb impact energy. And they're easily replaceable, minimizing the need for time-consuming, costly repairs to the front of the frame rails.

ABS

You've heard of stopping on a dime. How about stopping on a wet dime? The all-new Dakota features large front disc brakes and standard rear-wheel or available four-wheel antilock brakes that help prevent wheel lockup and improve steering control in extreme braking or slippery conditions.

Airbag protection

Air bags, air bags, and more air bags. The all-new Dakota features standard advanced multistage driver and front-passenger air bags† with an occupant classification system (OCS) that adjusts the deployment force of the passenger-side front air bag based on passenger weight. Supplemental side-curtain air bags are available on both Quad Cab® and Club Cab® body styles to provide increased side-impact protection to front and rear outboard occupants in the event of a collision.

Rear head restraints

Our safety engineers didn't rest their heads when it came to protecting yours. The rear head restraints on all Dakota models have a foam-padded steel rod structure with ladder-style design. The result? Increased protection in the event of a collision, and outstanding rearward visibility to help avoid one in the first place.

* Based on NHTSA's 2005 model-year ratings. Club Cab only. Rear seat not tested.

† Certified to the federal regulation for automatic passenger occupant classification. Always use seat belts. Children 12 and under should always be in a backseat correctly using a child restraint system, or have the seat belt positioned correctly for the child's age and weight.
